10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (2024)

With bedrooms being a space to relax, unwind and (most importantly) sleep, it is imperative that your space nurtures these feelings. We have all been there before, a bad night sleep means we are not properly functional the next day. It’s happened so many times, so I started looking into ways I could improve the space in my bedroom to enable me to sleep a little better.

I’ve always been a fan of the minimalist design but have never really considered it as an interior design route for my own home. But I started looking into it and found that I could really get on board with it! With all this in mind, here are 10 of the best minimalist design ideas that I have found that you can use for your own bedroom.

Men’s Minimalist Bedroom Designs

We appreciate that some men may not be living with anyone at this point in their lives, so it’s a great opportunity for you to change your bedroom up and go for a more minimalist design. Here are some of the best ideas I have seen since conducting my research!

Optimising Natural Light

This design makes use of lots of natural light coming in from the right-hand side, which really shows off the stunning nature of the room! You can add your own sense of style here with the artwork above the bed. And, of course, the cat is not an imperative to this design.

Above Bed Storage

One of the main issues people have when considering minimalist design philosophies for their bedroom is the lack of storage space they will be able to utilise. This is a common concern, as minimalist design does often require certain elements to be left out. This photo from Olivier Marquis on Pinterest shows that it is possible to maximise the amount of storage space you can utilise, whilst keeping within the bounds of minimalism. This is an excellent option for men wanting a minimalist bedroom, who also need a good amount of storage space.

Modern Lines

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (3)

One thing that often draws people to converting to minimalist design principles is the ability to utilise clean, modern lines in their design. This photo shows this in exquisite detail! Almost every single piece of furniture has a bold line within it! It also shows an area for above bed storage as I explained in my last point and allows for an extremely modern design that is a sure-fire way to draw attention and start conversations. Really, the only thing in this bedroom example that doesn’t feature a bold line is the bed and the curtains. You really cannot go with that.

Artsy Minimalism

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (4)

One issue I have in society now is the belief that men are not allowed to enjoy art, or really show any sort of feminine qualities at all. This photo shows that is completely possible to show off a love for art, whilst still designing a manly minimalist bedroom for you to enjoy. The clean space above the bed allows for different pieces of art to be displayed, and there is still room on each side of the bed for a clean bedside table. The colours used in the space also show that element of manliness as well.

Women’s Minimalist Bedroom Designs

I hear you; this article is not exclusively for men! In this section, you will see some of my favourite minimalist bedrooms that will appear to more of the female population. Of course, design tastes are subjective, and people can enjoy what they want! These are just some of my favourites.

Biophilic Design

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (5)

One thing that a lot of women like to include in their interior design is elements of biophilic design. But who says that you can’t bring two design philosophies together? This photo shows that not only is it possible to merge biophilic design and minimalism together, but it can work well! The design allows for space for not one, but two plants! And allows for ample storage space and room for art on the wall! All whilst looking completely clean!

Exposed Hardwood Flooring, Covered with Rugs

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (6)

We love this design! It offers so many amazing features whilst still looking clean, which is something aspired to by many fans of the minimalist design philosophy! One of the features we really love is the exposed hardwood flooring, but the fact it still offers a sense of comfort and warmth with an amazing bedroom rug.

Mix Your Colours

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (7)

We love this bedroom example! When choosing colours for your bedroom, there is nothing that states you cannot choose a mix of colours to add contrast. The navy walls, combined with the light blue and pink hues offered from the colours for the bed show that you can really choose colours that you like and (when done correctly), you can still have a stunning bedroom as a result!

Classic Greys

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (8)

Who says greys can only be used in men’s bedrooms? Not us! We firmly believe that if you want grey in your minimalist bedroom, then you can have it! This stunning example perfectly shows how you can mix a different number of grey tones to complement each other. Of course, if you want to go hard on the minimalist design philosophy, then you can get rid of some of the features such as the mirror and some of the artwork. But even with all of these miscellaneous items, it is still a minimalist bedroom!

Couples Minimalist Bedroom Ideas

The last two examples I’ll give you will be two of our favourite minimalist bedroom ideas suited to couples who are living together. We understand that different people will have different design favourites and compromise is often needed! So this will be focused on neutral colours that work well in the eyes of couples!

Navy, White and Grey

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (9)

When couples decide to move in together, one of the biggest compromises they make is with their interior design. Luckily, there are a whole host of colours which men and women traditional love! Navy colours, whites, and greys! This minimalist bedroom shows how all these 3 colours can be used together, in perfect harmony, to create the perfect couple’s minimalist bedroom! We love what they have done here, and the bedroom rug just adds to the level of sophistication.

Storage in the Walls

10 Minimalist Bedroom Design Ideas | Design Ideas for the Built World (10)

You have heard of storage above the bed, well how about storage in the walls? There is space on each side of the bedroom for each partner in the relationship to store their own items, and still allows for a full-scale minimalist design to be included!
