Small Front Entry Challenges

Don’t let a small front entryway hold you back from creating a functional and beautiful space. Despite the challenges posed by limited space, there are many creative ways to decorate and maximize storage. By making minor changes to our own entryway, you will be amazed by the transformation. You can see the before and after below.

Small Entry Makeover

While searching for a new console or entry table, I thought sharing some ideas on how we updated our small front entryway would be helpful.

Small Front Entryway Storage Cabinet

Our original front entry makeover was one of our first updates when we moved in years ago. I have been looking at different types of affordable console tables and finally decided on this white console from Wayfair. Added storage is valuable in any home, and the extra drawer space caught my eye.

What do we keep in the drawers?
  1. A drop off for our keys and pocket items, so we always know where they are
  2. The junk drawer, everyone needs one, and moving it opened up a drawer in our kitchen
  3. Chargers and everyday tools for mail and packages like utility knives and a letter opener

Console Table Styling

For an aesthetic look, I added a white decorative vase filled with eucalyptus leaves, a couple of decorative books (book 1, book 2), a candle, and a wick trimmer. This unit has a larger top than my last console table. I will probably add a table lamp soon in place of the vase to bring additional lighting into our front entry and main living area.

I love the shelf on the bottom of the table where I can keep those extra throw blankets or pillows when needed. The brown wicker basket pulls the color from our coffee table into the entry giving the plain white cabinet some texture.

Mirrors reflect light, and I am looking for a mirror to place above the front entry table. For now, the large clock (similar) remains. The one thing I have learned is not to rush into investment purchases. If you do, you may regret it later; take your time and find a piece you will love.

Small Entryway Storage Bench

The next small DIY project will be painting the entryway bench the same color as the cabinet. In the meantime, I added a few new pillow covers for the warmer seasons. I am enjoying these lovely florals (pillow 1, pillow 2) from a seller on Etsy named Cousins Elegance in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. Besides pillow covers, she also has beautiful makeup bags and coin purses.

What I love about this bench is the additional storage. We keep our winter accessories in woven wicker drawers like hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves. This saves us from moving and storing them elsewhere in the warmer seasons.

Next to the bench, I brought new art prints (print 1, print 2) and frames (Home Sense find, frame 2) with a warm, vintage feel. The photos turned out amazing, and the frames were reasonably priced. The two lanterns I purchased quite a few years ago and had in my dining area. They fit pretty nicely next to the bench as it needed something on the floor to balance the space.

The area rug that covers the ceramic tile in the entrance has been so durable and catches all the dirt from our shoes I decided to leave it for another season. It’s a neutral color, and the textured weave goes well with our living room, a shared space with the entry.

These small front entryway ideas can easily change your room or area. The costs of this refresh include a new console table, pillow covers, prints, and frames. The balance of the items remained, or I swapped pieces around my home. Are you updating your entryway? I would love to hear about your latest find.
