A sticky bun is basically a cinnamon roll {in this case a refrigerated cinnamon roll} that is made even more amazing because it is baked in a caramel sauce.

Once baked the rolls are inverted and the caramel sauce becomes the top of the rolls for this wonderfully delicious and sticky topping that goes perfect with the cinnamon roll.

Any great cinnamon bun starts with a delicious caramel sauce. Sometimes that means minutes of stirring a thick and hot liquid on the stove top but not this time.

To make our delicious caramel all you have to do is combine brown sugar and heavy cream. Whisk to mix the ingredients well and help to dissolve the sugar.

Pour that awesome mixture into your greased 9×13 baking pan and then top it with pecans.

To get the perfect pecan topping, we are using a combination of whole and chopped pecans. Adding both gives you pockets of pecans with nice bites that pack a punch.

The final step for assembly is to top the caramel pecan topping with the refrigerated cinnamon rolls.

Bake the rolls in a 350 degree oven for 25-28 minutes or until the rolls are a nice golden brown and baked through.

The amazing caramel pecan topping will also be bubbling up. As it bakes a magical thing happens. Part of the caramel soaks into the the cinnamon rolls while the other part creates this wonderful gooey caramel sauce.

Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool for only about 1 minute.

The using a cookie sheet {that is what I used} or a nice rectangle serving dish, invert the rolls. Now that sticky and delicious caramel pecan sauce that is now the top of the sticky buns! They are ready to serve warm.

How to reheat Sticky Buns?

Ingredients

  • 2 cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls

Caramel Pecan Topping

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar {packed}
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup pecans {whole}
  • 1/2 cup pecans {chopped}

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Prepare a 9x11 pan by spraying it with non-stick cooking spray.

  • In a mixing bowl combine brown sugar and heavy cream. Whisk together until smooth. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle with whole and chopped pecans. Top with refrigerated cinnamon rolls.

  • Bake for 25-28 minutes or until the tops of the cinnamon rolls are nicely browned and cooked through. Remove from oven and let cool for 1 minute. Use a cookie sheet or large rectangle serving tray and invert the cinnamon rolls. Serve and enjoy. Keep leftovers at room temperature for up to 3 days and warm in microwave to serve.
