Even lazier-- substitute San Pellegrino Pomelo soda for the grapefruit juice & syrup.

A lazy and diluted twist of this is gin, the juice of half a lime, and Newman's Own Pink Virgin Lemonade. Add a sprig of fresh thyme, if you have one. It's my by-the-pool favorite.

Refreshing & summery. Make sure you get bright red ruby grapefruit juice, and maybe use a full ounce of simple syrup - the citrus can make it quite sour (though that's what I loved).

It would also be nice as a spritz, poured over half a glass of seltzer water.

Drink of the century:
Muddled jalapeño to taste, juice from 1 lime, 2-3 shots gin, tonic splash in tall glass with mucho ice

If you can't have or don't like grapefruit, muddle and strain the juice from a handful of Concord or other black/purple grapes. A little less tangy but still yummy and still very pretty pink.

I've been using agave in place of simple syrup for my co*cktails recently and i doubt I'll ever go back. Made as directed- how did their ruby red drink turn out yellow...and frothy?

I used Hawthorne's London Dry, Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit juice (fresh squeezed) and this did not turn out as I expected. Because there was so much citrus, the gin was lost. If you're using fresh juices, maybe sub out the gin for vodka and just enjoy the strong citrus taste.

This is my favorite drink to make at home. Sometimes I like to add an egg white (especially when I add extra gin), I love love love it

Swap in Pampelmousse grapefruit liquor for the simple syrup. Adds the sweetness, with more depth of grapefruit flavor. Especially good with a splash of bubbly water (of just about any kind).

A splash of luxardo cherry brightens it

Recently I was cleaning out an old collection of clipped recipes and found a similar co*cktail in 4/15/2012 NYT Magazine in the Drink column. Called "A co*cktail for Jess" -- 2 oz gin, 2 oz fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (red is pretty), 1/2 oz St Germain elderflower, and a small squeeze of lime juice. It is also good with some ice and seltzer - which I look forward to in warm weather!
